Private Puppy Training

Larry-the-dog.jpg

If you are waiting to start training until your puppy has had their vaccinations, you are missing out on valuable training time.  In addition, if you have an anxious or reactive/vocal puppy, group classes may not be the best option.  If either of these situations apply to you, you may want to consider private, focussed training at your home.

At Progressive Dog Training we use methods that build a strong bond between you and  your puppy using positive reinforcement training techniques. This method of training involves using rewards, such as treats, toys or games, to encourage good behaviour and replace what we consider 'naughty behaviour' with what we want instead.  This means taking the time to teach your puppy what is expected of them, rather than punishing them for making mistakes. By using positive reinforcement training techniques, you can help your puppy learn to be a well-behaved and happy member of the household.

A written follow up report will be provided after each session so  you will have details of everthing we discussed along with a detailed reminder of the training exercises we practiced.

An initial 121 session is priced at £65 plus travel (depending on location) and is of approximately 90 minutes duration.  Follow up 1 hour training sessions are £45 plus travel.

Private Training for Adolescent/Adult Dogs

Training doesn't end with puppy classes and no dog is too old to learn.  At Progressive Dog Training we use techniques that provide a strong foundation of positive reinforcement, clear communication, and mutual trust between the dog and their owner. We gradually increase the complexity of training as the dog and owner team becomes more confident and skilled. This approach is especially effective, as it allows dogs to learn at their own pace and build their confidence gradually. Through positive reinforcement training, dogs  learn new cues and skills, overcome fears and anxiety, and ensure they are learning the behaviours that are desirable to us. It is a scientifically proven method of training that rewards good behaviour, making it more likely to be repeated, rather than punishing what we consider to be bad behaviour, which can cause fear and damage your bond with your dog. This approach is effective for any dog, whether they are adopted or owned from puppies, and will build  trust between the dog and their caregiver.

A follow up report is provided after each session so  you will have details of everthing we discussed along with a detailed reminder of the training exercises we practiced.

An initial 121 session is priced at £65 plus travel (depending on location) and is of approxiately 90 minutes duration.  Follow up 1 hour training sessions are £45 plus travel.

Small group classes

Dog Friends

Group classes with Progressive Dog Training involves working with a small group of dogs or puppies and their owners to develop your training skills and your dog's behaviour in a controlled and safe environment. Through the use of positive reinforcement techniques, dogs learn to respond to cues and behave appropriately (for humans) in a variety of situations. The training is progressive, meaning that as the dogs progress and learn new skills, the challenges and expectations for their behaviours increases. Group training allows for a fun and social learning experience for both the dogs and their owners, and can also be beneficial for building teamwork and communication within the group.  Great friendships can be made here!

There are a maximum of 4 dogs per class allowing for plenty of 121 time and each class is of one hour duration.

Adult classes are held at Hawthorn Farm in Four Marks.  The price is £25 per week payable 4-weekly in advance.

Puppy classes are held in Chawton Village Hall and are run as 8-week courses. We start with the basics and gradually, week by week, progress to more advanced behaviours.  We also discuss common behavioural issues and how to overcome them.  Puppy classes are £200 for the 8-week course.

Accompanied or solo training walks

Owner accompanied dog walks are an excellent way to improve your own training skills while getting some much-needed fun and exercise.  I will help you to  proof your dog's cues and behaviours utilising positive reinforcement techniques. During the walk, your dog will be exposed to different stimuli and distractions, allowing them to practice their training in real-world situations.

Accompanied walks are £45 per hour.

Solo training walks are aimed at dogs that are not comfortable in group walking scenarios.   I will collect your dog and take them for a training walk in a suitable environment, focusing on behaviours such as loose lead walking, recall and emergency stop.  It should be noted that dogs will be kept on the lead or long-line at all times.

Price is £45 per hour.
